Daniel 3:25

THE FOURTH MAN IN THE FIRE

Nov 2, 1969 am

HERE IS AN ADVENTURE AS WILD AS THE STRANGEST SCIENCE FICTION OR FAIRY TALE - BUT TRUE

  • The Lord honored the faithfulness of three men, and the world heard of Jesus being there
  • We also face the furnace of affliction and tribulation, do we have faith to see Jesus?
  • The prophetic and personal implications of this passage cannot be denied- you must listen.

For we face the climactic fulfilment of the prophecy given in dramatic life here!

I. THE ECUMENICAL CHURCH OF BABYLON  DAN 3

There is an interesting history of Satanic ecumenical progress through the centuries - see here

A. THE KING MADE AN IMAGE, AND DEMANDED THAT ALL MEN FALL DOWN TO WORSHIP IT v.1-3

  • This was 23 years after Dan 2, and now the king tries to follow the ancient steps of Nimrod
  • To unify his world, the king tried to provide one government, language, and one church for all
  • Rev. 13 describes the final fulfilment of this prophecy- the Anti-Christ in his final try.

B. THE PEOPLE OF ALL LANDS CAME TO WORSHIP THE IMAGE THAT NEBUCHADNEZZAR SET UP 3-6

  • The king controlled the known world at this time, others have done this since then
  • The heartbreak is that people would rather believe a false idol and a lie than the truth
  • Do not be fooled- worldly success does not make right- wealth, pomp, great crowds, publicity

C. THE WORLD WAS READY TO WORSHIP THE IMAGE AND TO ACCEPT SATAN'S SUBSTITUTE FOR GOD 7

  • When the great noise was made- huge organization - the masses bowed down to the image
  • The nations today turn to the greatest noise- not to what is right - so do our people!
  • Our world is ready for the final great thrust for the peace plan that will lead to blood bath

The Tale of Two Babylons by Hislop would show you how often nations have sought Nimrod

II. THE CHALLENGE OF THREE JEWS  Dan 3:

There was the strangest battle of the wills ever fought - the Emperor against three slaves

A. THE REPORT WAS GIVEN THE KING THAT CERTAIN JEWS REGARDED NOT THE COMMANDMENT  v.8-12

  • These Jews gave loyal, faithful, patriotic service to the king - "Render undo Caesar"-
  • But when the command abused their spiritual faith- they stood tall against Caesar - for God
  • Where was Daniel?  Their leader was gone; would you stand fast without your leaders?

B. THEY REFUSED TO BOW DOWN TO THE IMAGE EVEN WHEN THE OFFICERS BROUGHT THEM TO THE KING v.13-18

  • They were not impolite, nor disrespectful, no fault in behavior, but they were firm in faith
  • They refused to compromise their spiritual values- no great riot, no support from the mob
  • The greatest sins today- our lack of loyalty to God, lack of faithfulness, half-hearted dedication

C. THEY HAD NO ASSURANCE OF DELIVERANCE FROM THE FIERY FURNACE, BUT THEY STOOD FIRM  17-18

  • They refused to do wrong, whether rescued or not- nation destroyed, parents killed, they stood
  • Real faith is not based on a hope of rescue, but on the reality of the value of spiritual
  • They did not fight, struggle, as slaves they had sworn their lives to the king - not spirits!

The king raged against the three helpless slaves, but they had faith to win even in death.

III. THE VISION OF THE FOURTH MAN   Dan 3

The most unusual appearance of Jesus Christ recorded in all of the Bible - will you see Jesus?

A. THE THREE HEBREWS WERE NOT SAVED FROM THE FIRE, BUT THROUGH THE FIRE v.19-23

  • People today want to be spared the heat of conflict, avoid issues, fight wrong battles, miss Jesus
  • When these three were thrown into the furnace it cost the king the lives of great men- dead
  • There are many kinds of fire that will judge - some now, some later- all involved- I Cor 3:13

B. THE FLAMES OF THE FIERY FURNACE SET THE PRISONERS FREE AND BROUGHT JESUS TO THEM v. 24,25

  • The only hurt around them was to their bonds- the chain of sinful men cannot stand God's fire
  • They had the joy of walking and talking with Jesus- in the midst of the fire - what said?
  • God has a special fellowship for those who stay true to Him during fiery adversity - today!

C. THE KING SAW THE FOURTH MAN IN THE FURNACE AND RECOGNIZED HIM AS THE SON OF GOD v.25b-28

  • Even the wicked king had enough sense to know Jesus when he saw him with the Hebrews-
  • Can you see Jesus in the way you face your troubles today? Many Christians lack the faith to
  • If you can't see Jesus yet, pray that you will not perish from the heat before you wake up

As the ecumenical thrusts continue today - do not compromise your faith - show Jesus

THE FOURTH MAN IN THE FURNACE IS SEEKING TODAY TO FIND HEARTS WHO WILL BELIEVE IN HIM

  • Do you know Jesus Christ in close fellowship?  If not, why not meet Him now before heat?
  • If you are a Christian, are you standing true to him in life and even in the threat of death?
  • Can others see Jesus in the way you face the conflicts of life?
