HERE IS A GREAT PORTION OF GOD'S WORD: DOUBTED, FEARED, MISUNDERSTOOD, BUT HERE IT IS!

• Rationalism has objected on the premise, "This portion must be false" because it shows a miracle.
• Even the comments of many Bible scholars are confusing- they can't believe what is not understood
• When we begin by Faith, there is no trouble understanding if we let God tend his business

Archaeology, the history of languages, sociology, all support faith in God's Word

I. THE STORY OF THE TOWER OF BABEL  Gen 11:1

The land is still there, the foundations of a tower of baked brick is there, and libraries

A. "GO TO, LET US BUILD US A CITY AND A TOWER . . . LET US MAKE US A NAME" 11:4

• Burned brick and slime mortar (3) as hard as Egyptian rock, Greek Marble- they had only dirt to use
• Top reaching heaven? Safe from flood, fort, natural landmark, Astrology center, proud city
• They gave as a reason - to make us a name, lest we be scattered - sounds reasonable-

B. THE LORD CAME DOWN TO SEE THE CITY AND THE TOWER 11:5-6  HERE WAS DELIBERATE DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD

• God had commanded them to replenish the earth; they wanted to make a name and stick together
• As long as they were working this way- their will, not God's, would pervade - nothing impossible
• The big sin- disobedience to God, Pride, Self-will- God could not tolerate- Cities - evil

C. GOD CONFOUNDED THEIR LANGUAGE, AND SCATTERED THEM IN A MYSTERIOUS MIRACLE v.7-9

• Don't try to figure it out- human wisdom can only examine the facts- it happened.  See Halley's Handbook
• God accomplished His purpose with men, or without men's willingness- History shows record
• The confusion of tongues continues to this day, prevents some of man's greatest projects

There is a lesson for us in this ancient record, lest we repeat the proud sin

II. THE INFLUENCE OF THE TOWER CONTINUES  11:9  "FROM HENCE"

The mysterious occurrences in the Bible were recorded as prophetic history, food for our soul.

A. THERE ARE SEVERAL TOWERS OF BABEL STANDING THROUGH THE CORRIDORS OF TIME

• Babel (Heb) or Babylon (Gr) = Confusion, the order of the world under Gentile world domination
• A religious Babylon- Rev. 17:56- apostate Christianity- headed up by Anti Christ, Beast, False, Prophet
• A political Babylon- 18:2- taking over the world in a bath of blood till the Lord comes

B. WE NEED TO TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE SPIRITUAL BABYLON LEST WE BE FOUND TO JOIN HER CAUSE

• First is a drive for unity- Acts 4:32 - Church ecumenical councils today working hard on this
• Then ambition- using worldly, not spiritual means, resulting in man-made unity- Papacy
• Then the confusion of tongues - split Protestantism with its innumerable sects- more corruption 

C. THERE ARE MANY SUBTLE AND NOT SO SUBTLE PRESSURES TO JOIN THE "UNITY" OF THE WORLD CHURCH

• David Du Plessis -"Speaking in Tongues"- led Pentecostals into council- Africa, South America, Arizona
• The advance men for Evangelistic thrusts - Big revivals, Institutes- try to get everyone - JOINING
• Another would split with Liberal Council- forms "Church of All Christian Faiths"- ecumenical

We would not want to oppose God, neither help build the tower- nor became anarchists

III. THE PRICE OF THE TOWER -- CONFUSION

If we will draw close to the Lord, saturate ourselves with His Word, we can do His Will

A. THE SOCIAL PRICE OF THE TOWER OF BABYLON IS CONFUSION, CHAOS, ANARCHY, THEN DICTATORSHIP

• Look at the confusion of our land- led by the liberal clergy- List of Goals of Ecumenical Council
• The higher the tower of "unity" the further to the left it leans- back to Rome & Chaos  Prov 14:12
• Those who do not go along are degraded, persecuted, destroyed - no separatists allowed -

B. THE SPIRITUAL PRICE OF THE TOWER OF BABYLON IS DESTRUCTION OF BIBLE, REPLACED BY ASTROLOGY

• Those who can see and hear God revealed in the Bible can know His will, and try to do it
• So we have a duplicity of translations- soon replaced with a Dictator Bible-
• What prophecy preachers used to warn of 30 years ago is now growing in the land- watch it

C. THE ONLY WAY TO ESCAPE BABYLON IS TO STUDY GOD'S WORD CAREFULLY, OBEY IT PRAYERFULLY, AND LIVE BY FAITH

• Intelligence is no substitute of Obedience- and you cannot obey God and Mammon - choose which
• Cooperative unity is no substitute for individual responsibility- be saved, and win souls - personally
• Conception and birth are sacred personal times- not something for religious communes

Do not be unequally yoked together - II Cor 6:14 (next week)

SATAN'S SUBTLE PRICKS ARE STILL BEING USED TODAY TO TRICK PEOPLE INTO DISOBEDIENCE

• Study the Bible yourself; it tells us to receive Christ as only way of Salvation- Born Again
• Be obedient to the Lord personally- man's drummed up movements herd lambs to the slaughter
• Win souls to Jesus no matter what the circumstance; tell what Jesus has done in YOUR heart
