THE KEY MESSAGE OF THE BOOK OF HEBREWS IS THAT CHRIST IS BETTER THAN THEIR OLD WAY

• God spoke to men through a veil, but now in the person of His son- He speaks face to face
• Heb 1 shows Him better than the angels in glory, but Ch. 2 shows him lower in position as man
• But the great message of Hebrews is that God now speaks through His Son, and His Son is better than the Angels, Prophets, Patriarch, or Priests.  BEHOLD GOD'S SON!

I. GOD HATH SPOKEN *THE VEHICLE OF FELLOWSHIP

At once, in the 1st words of this epistle we are ushered into the presence of God

A. GOD HATH SPOKEN TO THE FATHERS BY THE PROPHETS - THE OLD TESTAMENT MESSAGE

• Abraham fell on his face when God talked with him; Moses' face did shine after seeing God
• But the message of the Old Testament was provisional, preparatory, to be replaced by better one
• But the action of men is more prominent- the 1st stage of God dealing with men- awakening them

B. HATH IN THESE LAST DAYS SPOKEN TO US BY HIS SON - THE OLD TESTAMENT PRESENT REALITY

• Jesus walked with men - "We beheld His glory" John 1:14 & "Our hearts burned while He talked"- Luke24:32
• God walking and talking with men face to face- promised, destined, everlasting revelation
• Isn't it so much better, personal fellowship with God rather than through a glass darkly?

C. BUT IT IS GOD WHO HATH SPOKEN - NEVER LOSE SIGHT OF THE FACT THAT GOD COMMUNICATES WITH MEN!

• The Bible is not a part of the evolution of man - from caveman to civilized.  No evolution.
• The Bible is not inspired as it touches the spark of deity in man's heart - for man is dead
• But God has spoken- He, Himself, for His own purpose, has reached down to speak with us!

Listen carefully to what the Voice of God has to say, for here is our touch with God!

II. HIS SON IS REVEALED *THE PERSON OF FELLOWSHIP

The grandeur of all creation, and eternity bows before Jesus Christ, God's Son

A. WHOM HE HATH APPOINTED HEIR OF ALL THINGS 1:2b

• The great purpose of God is an inheritance for His Son - sounds so human, inadequate words
• v.5,6,8 all show the purpose of God to give honor to His Son, we had better do likewise
• Men have enough sense to copy a king when they dine with him, NOW PAY ATTENTION TO GOD

B. GOD'S SON IS REVEALED AS THE CREATIVE AGENT, BY HIM THE WORLDS ARE MADE 1:2c

• Again we find echoes of John 1, for God spoke, and the ages and the elements came into being
• v.10 we have the testimony of God that His Son laid the foundation of the earth, & heavens
• v. 11, 12 we have the prediction of God that they shall perish, wear out as a garment- He, not

C. BUT ONE OF THE GREATEST TRIBUTES TO GOD'S SON IS *BRIGHTNESS OF HIS GLORY, EXPRESS IMAGE v.3

• There is no greater way to tell to all the world the Glory of His Son- He is God Himself!
• He upholds all things by the word of His power- sustaining universe- of Col 1:15-19
• With all this greatness - He purged our sins v.3 - He gave personal attention to my problems

After all this build up, we are again shown that it was for us that He came - FOR ME

III. THE SON BETTER THAN ANGELS *ANGELS ARE SERVANTS, NOT THE KING

Men have always stumbled over the wrong things, and turned their worship the wrong way

A. THROUGHOUT HEBREWS JESUS IS SHOWN AS A MORE EXCELLENT NAME; IN EVERY CHAPTER HE IS SHOWN BETTER

YES, JESUS IS BETTER THAN ALL

B. JESUS BY INHERITANCE OBTAINED A MORE EXCELLENT NAME THAN ANGELS

• It is Gods intention, plan, prophesy, and determination- Phil 2:10 Every knee to bow, Every tongue to confess, name above every name
• In Hebrews God calls Him- My Son, 5, 1st begotten-6, O God-8, Angels worship Him- 6b
• The great mystery verse - Ps 110:1, used by Jesus, Matt 2:41-, Heb 1:13, 10:12,13

C. ANGEL ARE SENT FORTH TO MINISTER, NOT ONLY FOR JESUS, BUT FOR THOSE WHO ARE HEIRS OF SALVATION

• Angels are the instruments of God's power, messengers, flame of fire, to guard & to serve
• Lest we should worship angels as Col 2:18 look here, they are to minister for us!
• When you see all the glory of Jesus, then realize that you are joint heirs with Him!

After all the display of glory, God's message comes back to the object of His love- MEN

HAVE YOU HEARD GOD SPEAK AND RECEIVED THE LOVE GIFT OF HIS SON?

• If not, why not now?  God has moved heaven and earth to save you! Don't fight Him in this
• God has given you an inheritance with Jesus, live up to it, and claim it tonight by faith!
• Let God speak to you through the Word, and through life- that you see His plan for you.
