IN THESE VERSES IS EXPOSED THE GRAND PURPOSE FOR THE GOSPEL, THE NEW TESTAMENT, & THE ENTIRE BIBLE

1. Some feel that this verse ends John- Ch 21, a later thought like a P.S. on end of letter -purpose
2. Some would apply these two verses to the central purpose of the entire Bible- Genesis thru Revelation!
3. But the Holy Spirit would apply this verse very personally to YOU!  God knew YOU would be here this morning and when John wrote "That ye.." -By inspiration he meant YOU - very personally

I.- AND MANY OTHER SIGNS DID JESUS! John 20:30

Every Book in the Bible has a very special purpose for being written- meets a specific need for You

A.- THERE ARE MANY PARTS OF THE BIBLE, BUT THIS IS THE CLIMAX OF THE GOSPEL OF JOHN, BURDEN OF JOHN

1. Though we have the Bible bound in one volume the original books were separate epistles & book
2. This is one ending of John- other 021:25 for next Sun. Night- what Jesus did- India? England? Egypt?
3. But John wanted to catch the attention of the world- Educated, Intellectual-by His signs!-Miracles &Words

B.- THE REST OF THE BIBLE HAS FURTHER INSTRUCTION ON MANY SUBJECTS, BUT ALL COME BACK TO THIS ONE

1. John wrote I John 1:4 -for Joy, 5:13- for Assurance of life so that Christians have Fellowship
2. Other epistles were written -Rom 1:11 to impart some spiritual gift- so life could be full
3. Some was even written to warn us of wrongs- II Pet 3:16, and of Apostacy- Jude 3-study it all

C.- THE OLD TESTAMENT IS ALSO GOD'S WORD, WRITTEN TO US FOR OUR ADMONITION- I Cor. 10:11

1. God's Word gives us the basis for the Family unit, Human Government, Social relationships, justice
2. When God's Word is followed- it blesses us, and gives us a healthy environment in which to live
3. When men violate Biblical instructions- natural, moral,& legal statutes -Saved or not- they suffer

But having a nice family, nice government, nice neighbors, a measure of peace & prosperity- is not all

II. THESE ARE WRITTEN THAT YE MIGHT BELIEVE! V. 31 b

The entire Bible gives us the history, law, prophets, devotional, doctrine- to show us the Gospel!

A.- THE PURPOSE OF THE SCRIPTURES IS TO MAKE US WISE UNTO SALVATION! - II Tim 3:15

1. Paul was used of God to give us great Church Truth- He knew Wisdom comes from Sacred Scripture
2. He also knew that FAITH has but one source- the Word of God- Rom 10:17 - hearing the Word
3. So we teach ALL the Bible OT & NT- "All He has commanded us" "comparing Scripture with Scripture"

B.- EVERY PART OF THE BIBLE IS INSPIRED, AND IS PROFITABLE FOR MAN TO BECOME PERFECT- II Tim 3:16,17

1. There is more to life than just Salvation- and the Bible gives it! -more for the soul!
2. Doctrine, reproof, correction- why?  That we might become perfect (complete) mature- v.17
3. We must use right study methods, rightly divide the dispensations, but all is Word of Truth

C.- BUT JOHN'S BURDEN, THE FIRST STEP OF LIFE, IS TO BELIEVE IN JESUS AS THE CHRIST, SON OF GOD - 31

1. Matt- King; Mark-Servant; Luke-Son of Man; But John shows Jesus as the Son of God! Messiah
2. John wanted you to believe in the incarnate Word of God- dwelling among men- Jesus of Nazareth
3. Do you believe His message- God in the flesh- died on cross, arose, coming again? All for YOU?

Unless you believe this pointed message of John- all the rest of the Bible is wasted on you!

III.- THAT YE MIGHT HAVE LIFE ! THROUGH HIS NAME v. 31b

The words of His Prologue- 1:4,12 tell of life, and its only source- the Son of God!-

A.- THE BIBLE SHOWS MAN AS A LOST SINNER, NEEDING A SAVIOR, AND OF GOD'S GREAT LOVE IN JESUS!

1. Man's nature is truly shown- sinner, total depravity, lost, undone, hopeless, cannot help self
2. Man's only Salvation- is from God's only begotten Son- Jesus Christ- from Heaven to find YOU
3. Man's great potential- Being Saved- made new, given eternal life, acceptable to God,-

B.- ONLY JESUS CHRIST CAN MAKE THIS CHANGE IN YOU, AND WITHOUT IT YOU ARE FOREVER LOST!

1. Jesus can give you life NOW- a new creation in your heart NOW, new desires, new goals, different
2. The Eternal life means you need not fear death- it is but going through a door into His presence
3. It also means that you have the power of this Gospel to give to others- joy in sharing Jesus

C.- BUT ALL JOHN HAS WRITTEN, JESUS HAS DONE, STOPS AT YOUR HEART'S DOOR - Rev. 3:20

1. "That Ye" John writes- it all depends upon what you do with Jesus Christ- He only knocks!
2. Is it too much to ask you to believe in God's Son?  That He loves you?  That he Died for You?
3. You believe in Him historically- AD-BC, The world sings in Christmas His Carols--be personal!

Jesus knocks at your heart's door! But only you can invite Him in!  Would you insult Him?

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THE MESSAGE THAT JOHN WROTE FOR YOU SO MANY CENTURIES AGO? NOW IS TIME - DECIDE

1. The God-ordained way is for you to Confess His Son as your personal Savior - Invitation now!
2. The other things ask for belief and obedience that you might enjoy your new life- this too?
3. If you want all that the Lord has provided for you- take no shortcuts!  Do it God's way Now!
