Acts 2:37-41

THREE THOUSAND GLAD RECEIVERS

Feb 28, 1965 pm

THE MESSAGE THAT GOD GIVES PRODUCES JOY AND GLADNESS, AND SALVATION

  • Wherever people gladly receive the Word - God gives them salvation
  • God's gift of salvation produces joy and gladness, which leads to further obedience
  • We grow - grace upon grace, or backslide, sin upon sin - ours is the choice.

PETER PREACHED REPENTANCE AND BAPTISM TO ENABLE ONE TO RECEIVE THE HOLY GHOST

WHEN THEY HEARD THE MESSAGE THAT PETER PREACHED, THEY ASKED, "WHAT SHALL WE DO?"

PETER SAID, "REPENT AND BE BAPTIZED FOR THE REMISSION OF SIN"

"AND YE SHALL RECEIVE THE HOLY GHOST"

DOES THIS PASSAGE TEACH BAPTISMAL REGENERATION??

IF PART OF THE COMMAND LEADS TO SALVATION - IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT ELSE IS ADDED

WHETHER OR NOT BAPTISM IS NECESSARY DEPENDS ON THE LITTLE WORD "FOR"  (Gr EIS)

  • The Greek word "eis" here as in all places carries the meaning "because of"
  • Many places it speaks of forgiveness without baptism

IN ACTS 10:43 AND 44 THIS FORMULA DID NOT WORK - THEY WERE FILLED BEFORE BAPTISM

BAPTISM IS A TESTIMONY OF A LIFE THAT HAS RECEIVED CHRIST AS SAVIOUR

IN ACTS 10:48 PETER BAPTIZED THE HOUSEHOLD OF CORNELIUS BECAUSE THEY WERE SAVED

IN ACTS 8:35-38 THE ETHIOPIAN EUNICH MET THE CONDITION OF BELIEF SO HE WAS BAPTIZED

THE SYMBOL OF BAPTISM BECAME COMPLETE WITH ROMANS 6 ADDING THE LAST PICTURE

REJOICE WITH THESE AS THEY ARE OBEDIENT IN BAPTISM, AND IF YOU NEED TO FOLLOW THEIR EXAMPLE, DO!
