EASTER AND THE RESURRECTION
(Sunnyside Baptist Church Apr 6, 1947)

Sep 3, 1948

I. People want a resurrection, Easter is an attempt to keep this.

A. People come Easter that can't be interested any other time in the year. They come to hear of the life beyond the grave. The longing to survive sends them.  Almost everyone believes in some afterlife or other.

1. Would God end His greatest creation as a candle is snuffed out?
2. We hope for another life to make up for the sadness that we have suffered in this life.

B. Can a sentimental hope replace a fundamental faith?

1. Lack of faith in His resurrection undermines the Christian Church today.
2. The Christian assurance of everlasting life is based upon our saviors conquest of death

Matt 28:1-6
I Cor. 15:4-8

II. There had to be a Resurrection.

A. Jesus was not a mere man, He was God's son, the Creative Word, the faithful witness, the Foundation, The High Priest, The Head of the Church, The Friend of sinners.

B. Jesus was dead, the tomb sealed and guarded. For three days Satan had complete triumph over God. Evil overthrew Good, wrong triumphed over right, death over life. The Light of the world was extinguished.

C. God, because He was God, had to intervene- There had to be a return of power of Good. There had to be a resurrection.-

III. CHRIST AROSE

If Christ died and rose again as He said he would do, who could logically question the truth of all He said. on all matters?

A. Jesus said we are sinners- Matt 5:18, James 2:10

B. Jesus said strait is the gate- Matt 7:14

C. Jesus gave the remedy for burdens- Matt 12:28

D. Jesus has the power to forgive Sins- Mark 2:9,10

E. Jesus gave the way of eternal life- John 3:3

F. Jesus gives life more abundantly- John 10:10

JESUS REVEILED THE WAY THEN BECAME THE WAY John 14:6
