WE OFTEN NEED OUR HEARTS WARMED BY THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, AND HE IS HERE TO DO SO!

1. Last week we spoke of the Open Veil- The way is clear, but Like 2 Apostles- we go the wrong way
2. We find we cannot warm our own hearts, nor can we open our own understanding - Jesus can!
3. The disciples who walked the road of despair - ran back to tell the good news- then they knew their hearts had been warmed - but can we receive from that warmth today?

I.- THE MYSTERY OF THE WARMED HEARTS Luke 24:13-32

Their hearts were set on fire by the love of the Lord, and they did not even recognize it, until...

A.- WHO WAS THE MYSTERIOUS STRANGER THAT WALKED WITH THESE TWO, AND LEFT THEM WITH REAL WARMTH?

1. They were on defeat road, quitting, discouraged, gossiping about complaints and failures
2. But a Stranger came along and walked with them, ministering to them unrecognized -v.16
3. If Jesus loved these two enough to chase them down & bless them- Does He love you less?

B.- WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE THE HEART BURN WITHIN? WHAT IS THE IDIOM THAT IS USED HERE?

1. We Baptists want to be sure we do not surrender to any emotional feeling- excitement dangerous
2. Jesus warned about men hiding their light Matt 5:15,16 -Light & Warmth being covered up
3. God is interested in your heart I Sam. 16:7 -Man looks on outward appearance- God on heart

C.- THE MOST PRECIOUS MOMENTS OF LIFE, THE GREATEST JOYS, ARE OFTEN UNRECOGNIZED AT THE TIME

1. Exod 34:29- Moses came back to his people with his face aglow- but he did not know it till told
2. Mary saw Jesus, talked with Him, but did not know it -John 20:14 -only a second, but wasted
3. We are now living in the most exciting time of history- but too busy griping about the crisis

Unless we have the touch of the Lord to our hearts, we will faint in the way, not knowing!

II.- WHAT WAS THE SECRET WAY ΤΟ WARM HEARTS ?

There must be some secret to this, and we can discover it!  Study well, for it is a great power!

A.- "AS HE TALKED WITH THEM IN THE WAY" v.32b DID JUST HIS PRESENCE WARM THEIR HEARTS?

1. He walked with them, listened to their problems- v.17 and Jesus will listen to you today!
2. He scolded them, accused them of being slow of heart to believe- v.25 -a whipping warms!
3. He told them the way to Glory is through suffering -v26 -corrected wrong ideas!

B.- "AND WHILE HE OPENED TO US THE SCRIPTURES" v.32c THE BIBLE HAS ALWAYS STARTED FIRES IN MEN

1. Jesus began at Moses, went on through the Prophets- have you covered the Bible? Lately?
2. He expounded the Scriptures concerning Himself- Search your Bible, Mark the Glory passages
3. v.44c shows He even used the Psalms - every emotion of human hearts has a written prayer!

C.- BUT ALL OF THIS WOULD HAVE CREATED NO REAL WARMTH HAD HE NOT OPENTED THEIR HEARTS & UNDERSTANDING

1. v.45 gives the real secret!  He had already taught them the Bible, now he opened their minds
2. We are so full of ourselves- prejudices, our own will,- We need the Lord to open our understanding
3. "We see through a glass darkly"- We need the Lord to loose our blinders and let us really see

These Disciples were so weary, but things suddenly changed - they knew real warmth & vitality

III.- HOW CAN OUR HEARTS BE WARM TODAY?

If your temperature is not right, you are sick! But often we refuse to go to Doctor. Why?

A.- TO BE WARMED, WE MUST COME TO GOD BY FAITH - II COR. 4:6-7 - GOD HAS SHINED INTO OUR HEARTS

1. Some of us work hard to keep from being encouraged, revived, changed,- we like our rut!
2. God has to shine into your heart, or you cannot come to know Jesus Christ as Savior-
3. if He created the Earth- can't He warm your heart- even if you hold the light in earthen vessel?

B.- BUT OUR JOB IS TO DRAW NEAR TO THE LIGHT OF THE LORD WITH A PURE HEART - Heb 10:22 -Boldly!

1. We cannot change our hearts- but we can move our feet!  Come to God- then He will burn impurities
2. To come to Him takes faith- He might not chase us down like He did these two.  Will you come?
3. If you spend time with Jesus- you will get a burning heart!  Feel Unworthy- but warmed by Him

C.- WE ARE LIVING IN DAYS WHEN SPIRITUAL WARMTH IS NEEDED DESPERATELY, COME OR FACE GREAT LOSS!

1. The night is far spent!  Coldness of age is closing in on us!  Draw close to Jesus or perish
2. Judges 16:20 -Sampson rose up with power gone, & knew it not!  Rev. 3:15 -lukewarm hearts!
3. Isa 6:5-8 tells how God warms hearts- Come to the altar- confess your sins- & wait on God!

Will Jesus find any faith when he returns? By faith, make up your mind you will stand for Him

DO YOU HAVE A WARM HEART FOR JESUS?  IF SO SHARE IT!  IF YOU ARE COLD, COME TO JESUS TO BE WARMED!

1. If you need salvation from your coldness- come to Jesus, accept His love, salvation, new life
2. If you as a Christian have grown cold- Jesus has not moved! -Come to altar!  Walk in His Word
3. Warmth is here- spiritual strength, power, & life! -If you will walk, listen, & believe!
