THE BOOK OF THE GENERATION OF JESUS CHRIST

Dec. 31, 1967 pm

AS THE O.T. PRESENTS A MESSAGE ENDING IN A STERN WARNING, THE N.T. GIVES GRACE

Where the OT begins with the generation of mankind, the NT begins with the generation of Jesus Christ.
Where the OT ends with the treat of a curst, the NT says of his coming, "Even so Come" - Grace!
The difference is not in the presence of Jesus - Theosophies in OT - but in the "abiding" work of the Holy Spirit - giving new hearts to men.  This is Grace - WITH us.

THE FOUR GOSPELS - The laying down of the new Law in Christ Jesus

Four different men looked at Jesus, and every man's need met in Jesus Christ

  • Matthew - the tax collector - saw Jesus as King - and gave a lot of Kingdom Truth with Gospel.
  • Mark - the sergeant lad - saw Jesus as the Servant of God - gave Practical Truth - to minister.
  • Luke - the doctor - saw Jesus as the Son of Man - the Humanity with Devotional Truth - to seek and save.
  • John - the theologian - saw Jesus as the Son of God - the Deity with Spiritual Truth - Eternal Life.

THE BOOK OF HISTORY - Showing the transition from a group of disciples to  a spreading church

Each of the Gospels closes with great expectation; Acts brings a worldwide ministry

  • Acts - Luke, the companion of Paul, chronicles the transition to a new body, the Church.

THE PAULINE EPISTLES - The revelation of the Mystery, the CHURCH, Body of Christ today

Through these epistles alone we have fulfillment of the Church and great doctrines

  • Romans - The complete explanation of the Gospel - Justification by Faith & 12:1-2
  • I Corinthians - To a troublesome church - urging them that they not come behind in any gift.
  • II Corinthians - To the same church - some more correction, but mainly an offering for Jews.
  • Galatians - To the churches in center of Turkey - Apostate - mixing faith & works in salvation.
  • Ephesians - Showing the church as it ought to be - the Body of Christ - in the heavenlies.
  • Philippians - Showing what the Christian ought to be - Rejoicing - written from prison.
  • Colossians - Showing Christ as the Head of the Church - Christianity is CHRIST, not doctrine.
  • I Thessalonians - Showing a model church that Jesus is coming again - be ready.
  • II Thessalonians - Correction - He has not come yet, the man of sin is not yet revealed.
  • I Timothy - To a young preacher, showing him his true function - to minister, proclaim truth.
  • II Timothy - Paul's last words - the young preacher's personal responsibility as pastor.
  • Titus - Showing the true function of the church - to adorn the Doctrine of Christ - hard places
  • Philemon - A runaway slave returned as a brother in Christ - written from prison.

THE JEWISH-CHRISTIAN EPISTLES

  • Hebrews - Written by Paul - to bring back the defectors who were returning to Judaism.
  • James - Written to the scattered 12 tribes - faith must work itself out.
  • I Peter - How the saints are to suffer - Christ is our strength during persecution.
  • II Peter - How the saints are to fight apostacy - The Day of the Lord is coming.
  • I John - By the beloved - to show God's love to His children - how we can enjoy it.
  • II John - Caution against false teachers - do not wish them Godspeed.
  • III John - Warning against a dominating apostacy - the leader who loved preeminence.
  • Jude - Started to be a gospel, but came out a plea to contend for the faith.

THE NEW TESTAMENT PROPHESIES - though several books have key prophetic messages

One book was written by John - while in exile on Island of Patmos - like Daniel

  • Revelation - Things which John, saw, which were (churches) and which shall be - prophetic

After ALL THIS, Jesus announced "Surely I come quickly" and John answered, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus."

Are you living where God could receive this answer from you?

Everything necessary for you to live the Christian life in in the New Testament - are you?
