INTRODUCTION - THIS IS THE WARRIOR'S MORNING SONG OF VICTORY, RIGHT WITH GOD BEFORE THE GREAT CONFLICT

2. Can we stand repetition? We cannot too often resolve to keep our heart fixed on God!
3. This is not vain repetition- but like a drink from a cool spring- we can drink again!

Skipping the luxury of a fine outline- let's just take a phrase at a time-

1. "O God, My heart is fixed"- Through wars, and cares of earth- I am not moved (another study). The wheel of a chariot turns fast- but the axle is fixed- under careful control -solid - I am settled in one mind- nothing will change that- No fickleness of nature! "I will sing & give praise" - the combination of sing & play; voice and instrument for God "even with my glory" my intellect, tongue, poetic faculty- the best of my being!-
2. "Awake instruments- I will awake early-" many stringed instrument in wind above David- The brightest and best hours of day for God- not half awake- but pulling the dawn up!
3. Poetic Prophecy- David only by God's help-could see this psalm across the nations- the dark skinned Eskimo-hand of midnight sun/ or yellow oriental-dawn like thunder-
4. The theme of the song-
   God's Mercy - how vital and how real to a man who saw death
   God's Truth- His word- lifting man above the clouds-
5. Here is praise for God- Give God His place, exalt Him, worship HIM- not humanism-
6. Here the change to Ps 60:5-11 After prayer of praise, comes prayer of requests- Nation hanging on prayers of one man- Washington in Valley Forge- Lincoln-garden-NOW?
7. GOD HATH SPOKEN I WILL REJOICE - God spoke directly to David- & through Nathan-We too have God's Word- do you rejoice in it? Do you let it be Holiness? or corrupt?
   7b. Begins a list of victories of David- note them carefully- Christian is not static-but win
8. (7 & 8) HOME CONQUESTS FIRST - Shechem-Gilead-Manasseh, Ephraim, Judah- David's own land
   If you would serve God- the greatest battles are within self- Emotions-Appetites-
   If your own nature is not under the Lord's control- personal weakness will destroy!
9. Moab my wash - pot the claim of victory over the external enemies-
   As a man washes his feet after a journey- so he uses Moab- & rinses it out
   There are encampments of the enemy in our town- defeat them- Liquor/dope/immoral/
   -Over Edom I will cast my shoe- an insult to strongly fortified Pietra- & others
   Edom was proud, strong, dangerous,- raided caravans- ambushed refugees- deadly
   To cast his shoe over them- insult-like throwing a show at a cat- dog
   In ancient days- Spurgeon-said-The Pope/ Today- Communism/humanism
   -over Philistia will I triumph- The battles of youth-refought - be ready-forewarned
   The Passions that gave us problems in youth-rise to plague us again in old age
   WE NEED THE FAITH THAT WILL LEAD US ROUGH TO VICTORY AND DAVID SINGS OF THAT FAITH

11. Wilt not thou- & as a question- placing God's honor at stake!
    This is a grand faith- to trust the Lord- when He seems to have east us off!
    But David resolved to trust the Lord in the night- under the cloud- all the way-
    Some only trust the Lord when they are pampered, spoiled, & can feel His presence-
    God cannot fail to go forth with our Hosts- when they go in His name! David knew, this - Goliath
12. This prayer has fallen from the lips from many a man in serious trouble.
    We can be vainly disappointed in our fellow men- they will all let us down-not God
13. Faith cannot be a coward not a sluggard- Faith is not the slide of the lazy!
    "Through our God" here is our secret weapon- secret resource for power & wisdom
    "We shall do valiantly-" here is the public outflow from the secret well of strength
    "We shall tread down our enemies"- some today are offended by the military Psalms
    This world is not just all peaches & cream! Christians have been made weak-
    In History Christians have had to fight- & will do so again- any savor-
    But make sure it is of the Lord - whether fighting Pope, or King George!
